From June 6, 2025, it will no longer be possible to register or deregister contracts retroactively.
What will change for me?
New legal requirements for the energy market will come into force on June 6, 2025. The Federal Network Agency is introducing technical standards and deadlines that will regulate cooperation between energy suppliers, grid operators, and other market participants.
A key element is the so-called „24-hour supplier change“:
🔹 In the future, a change of energy supplier must be technically completed within one business day.
🔹 This should be possible every business day.
Important for customers:
With the new regulation, retroactive registrations or deregistrations are no longer permitted.
This means:
👉 From June 6, 2025, registration or deregistration is only possible for a date in the future.
The aim of the changes is to promote competition on the energy market and make it easier and quicker to switch suppliers.
MaLo-ID is becoming more important.
Up to now, the meter number has played a central role for registrations and deregistrations. In the future, the market location identification number (MaLo-ID) will also become more important. It is increasingly being used as an identification feature – which is why you will come across this number more frequently in the future, for example in connection with your energy contract or when changing supplier.
